Dame Kelly Holmes Trust - Sheffield

What is the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust?

Established on the eve of the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Dame Kelly Holmes founded the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust (DKHT), with a vision to get young lives on track using the unique skills of world class athletes to engage, enable and empower.

Powering Potential, Shaping Futures

DKHT believe all young people must have an equal opportunity to be the best versions of themselves. They are here to equip them with the positive behaviours and mindset they need to tackle the disadvantage they face due to inequality in their everyday lives. They deliver transformational programmes designed to improve their wellbeing, help them build healthy relationships and unlocks the confidence, self-esteem and resilience needed to achieve in education, work and life. What is happening in Sheffield?

Westfield Health have provided the Trust with funding for a minimum of three years to help boost the health and wellbeing of young people in Sheffield.

Annually we have funding to provide:

  • Ten On Track to Achieve Wellbeing programmes in secondary schools (11- 18 yr olds)

  • Two Community Leadership Programmes (18 – 24 yr olds)

  • Festival of Wellbeing

On Track to Achieve for Education is an innovative seven month school based mentoring programme in which Athlete Mentors work with groups of young people aged 11-19.

The programme helps develop the confidence, emotional resilience and teamwork of the young people, and enables them to reflect on their own aspirations for the future.

Over the course of the programme, young people will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with an Athlete Mentor to achieve their personal goals and targets set for the programme.

  • Keep an up to date account that reflects their development and activities undertaken.

  • Work as a team with other young people from within the school and/or in the local community.

  • Be part of a social action project that will make a positive impact locally.

Leadership Academy

Aims to produce a generation of young leaders, who genuinely care about their community and want to improve it for the better. We aspire to produce leaders who are motivated, trained and ready to tackle local issues for local people, particularly around health and wellbeing.

DKHT will deliver 2 Community Leadership Programme a year with 20 young people on each programme (40 in total per year).

Training will be delivered by Trust Athlete Mentors with opportunities for guest speakers, volunteers and the target cohort will be motivated young people who want to make positive differences within their communities and who are particularly interested in improving health and wellbeing of others.

The training programme will be delivered over 18 sessions, across 18 weeks and each session will be between 2- 3 hours.
